Holy Monday

Overview

It’s Monday, and Jesus has just received a king’s welcome. He knew, however, that his mission was just beginning. There were many things that Jesus had to teach and accomplish in order to complete the work of His Father. The cleansing of God’s temple (or house) was an important part of this redemption story, and it reveals to us a side of Jesus that most people had not seen before. When he cleansed the temple, Jesus forced out all of the merchants who were taking advantage of God’s house and God’s people. In doing this, Jesus established the temple as a “house of prayer for all people.” In other words, as a place of worship and spiritual growth...a place where anyone could experience God’s love and forgiveness. Join us today by thanking God for establishing His house for ALL people! This is good news for us today!

Think About It

1. In today’s story, what were some people doing in the temple?

2. What did Jesus do about it?

3. What did Jesus call God’s house?

4. **Why was Jesus so frustrated in today’s story?

5. **Do you think of your church as a “house of prayer?” Why or why not?

6. **The Bible says that you are a temple of God’s Spirit. What are some things that you may need to “cleanse” from your heart or life to better commit yourself to God?

**Questions for older children, preteens or youth.
